Pediatric ENT Diseases

Pediatric ENT, also known as pediatric otolaryngology, is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disorders in children.

ENT diseases are especially common in children during the winter months. This is because children are more likely to be exposed to viruses and bacteria that cause these illnesses during this time. Additionally, the start of daycare and preschool can increase the risk of exposure, as children are in close contact with other children who may be sick.

The most common ENT pathologies in children include the following:

• Otitis media: This is an inflammation of the middle ear, which is located behind the eardrum. It can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection.
• Adenoids and tonsil problems: The adenoids are located at the back of the throat, and the tonsils are located on either side of the throat. These tissues can become enlarged or infected, which can cause breathing problems.
• Respiratory tract problems: These conditions can affect any part of the breathing passages, from the nose and throat to the lungs.
• Colds: Colds are viral infections of the upper respiratory tract. They are the most common cause of illness in children.
• Sinusitis: This is an inflammation of the sinuses, which are located in the bones of the face. It can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection.
